FAQs

What is Rebel Art Class?

A new art experience for children 4-12, plus families and adults. It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity for anyone, big or small, to work in a professional way, with exciting techniques and equipment and the help of experienced tutors.

What’s the philosophy?

Minor works are not minor works! Kids art has a right to be taken seriously. We encourage children to be expressive and imaginative and create truly stunning pieces. And we’re also letting the grown-ups have a go, too…

Where does it take place?

See our current venue.

Will my kids get messy?

Yes, that’s kind of the idea! Although we do supply them with overalls and offer hand-washing stations. We encourage parents to send their children in clothes they don’t mind getting covered in paint etc.

Is it the same activity every time?

No, every week we plan a session based on a new technique, inspired by a real artist. The programme is different every term. Sessions could involve anything from splatter painting, to intricate doodling, and we aim to build up skills over time. Parents (or anyone else signed up) will receive information about the term programme before the start of classes.

Is it safe?

The safety of participants is the highest priority. We always use appropriate equipment, school-grade paints and other materials and encourage attendees to arrive in chunky shoes to avoid slipping.

Will my kids see any controversial artworks?

No. The sessions focus on techniques and mark-making, and what children can accomplish with new materials. Though we use the work of practising artists as inspiration, we will never show children any artwork containing adult themes.

How do I book?

Classes are booked in blocks equivalent to half a school term. Sessions are split into age groups. Family and taster sessions are one-offs (you just book a single session). You can book here.

Can I book a taster session?

Yes, one-off taster sessions are bookable when we have space.

Do I have to book again every term?

No, if you sign your child up for one block of classes they’ll be automatically enrolled for the next block. Your child’s involvement in Rebel Art Class continues as long as you want.

Who leads the sessions?

All kids’ sessions are led by two experienced, professional arts facilitators – DBS-checked. There will be at least one tutor trained in first aid. Read more about our tutors.

How many kids are in each class?

Classes are for up to 12 children.

How are classes split up?

Classes are split into two age ranges: Explorers (ages 4-7) and Dreamers (ages 5-10). These classes run at specific times. Once your child is old enough, they’ll be invited to join classes within the next age range.

Can I stay and watch?

The weekly sessions are drop-off classes. However, there is a short window for parents to come in and see the work at pick-up time. If you’d like to come with your child then please book a family session.

What happens to the art?

You can take home any individual pieces of art. Often, pieces will be collaborative – those can’t go home, but we will share a digital gallery of any works created. We will sell special boxes to allow you to take home anything that’s still wet.

How do I get involved?

We’re currently looking for more teachers and locations to expand into. Just get in touch.

Do you do kids’ parties?

Yes! The space is available for extended party sessions on some weekends. Enquire now.

Will there be more venues?

Yes, we’re hoping to expand into more venues, soon. If you’d like to be kept informed about new Rebel Art Class openings then sign up to our mailing list.

Can adults try it?

Yes, coming very soon! Sign up now to join the first adult sessions.

What about children with special educational needs (SEN)?

We try to encourage as many people as possible to enjoy Rebel Art Class. Booking a family session is a good way to test the experience with a child with special educational needs – parents are not allowed to sit in on drop-off classes. If you are unsure whether classes are suitable for your child you can review our SEN policy.

What about behaviour, safeguarding and health and safety policies?

You can review all of those here.
